Should I buy a 5 string electric bass?
I’ve been playing 4 string for about 15 years now. How hard is it to transition to 5 string? Is it hard to go back to 4 string if I don’t like it?
The additional string is called LOW B. Its down there about the second key on a piano. I adapted to it pretty quick, it opened up an unexpended dimension on the fretboard, whereas I used to play everything off the E string (like guitarists do) I now play off what I call Middle C, its on the middle string right there in th emiddle of the fret board. Go ahead and get one! Yes I would hate to go back to 4 string although I still have one I would hate to let my 5 string skill go to waste now that I have it.
